Project DescriptionThe Elements of Art and the Principles of Design are the building blocks of creating visually interesting composition. Understand these tools is key to building ones ability in art. The Elements and Principles give artist, viewers and critics a common language for discussing art. With this common ground, one gains the ability learn how to compose as well as how to give another advice on creating good composition.
Another primary step to building one's artistic ability is working in a sketchbook. In this class we keep a running sketchbook exercises, practice and ideas. The cover need to be as creative and beautiful as the work that we are putting in it. CriteriaTotal- 50
Interesting Design- 15: Focusing on the Elements and Principles, create a design that is well crafted and visually interesting. Theme- 5: Create a landscape or place that inspires you that uses the Elements and Principles Accurate Cutting- 5: Proper use of the razor blade in cutting out clear objects that do not leave any trace of the background of the prior image. Cover Filled- 5: The entire cardboard cover is filled with collage material. Finishing Glaze- 5: There is a sealing glaze of white glue painted over the entire collage. Prompt - 15: Design a space that inspires you. The scene must read as a place with the sense of Foreground, Middle Ground, and Background. *Extra Credit* create a design a back cover. |
Elements of Art Posters
To get some practice using the Elements of art, students created posters in small groups with a focus on one of the 7 Elements.
Principles of Design Posters
Using tempera paint, students again worked in small groups and practice using one of the 9 Principles.
