Project DescriptionThroughout history we have created a myriad of mythical creatures. They range from horrific and revoting, to the cute and inspiring. All of these things utilize the creative combination of things that already exist. The scales of a lizard, the horns of a deer, the talons of an eagle and the wings of a bat are a few of the many features that might comprise something like the mythical dragon.
Through this project students will design their own creatures from examples of other creatures and plants. The creatures will need a home to live in, so it will also be important to design a container or terrarium of some sort to keep them in. The entire thing will be painted using watercolor to create bright, yet ephemeral designs. Project CriteriaTotal -50 points
Harmonious Design - 15: Creature and background feel thought out, well constructed and fused. Layered Paint - 15 points: All areas of paint have 2 - 5 layers of paint on them, building up the color and value across the form to make it look 3-dimensional. Details - 10: The background and creature contain a variety of details that build the texture and patterning. Marks are made skillfully without bleeding into different areas. Color Set - 5 points: There is a conscious use of color throughout the entire design, paying attention to known color sets. Accurate Cutting - 5: The creature and/or the container are properly and carefully cut out and glued together |
